“Coming to the Tuscan Village in Lower Lake this Memorial Day weekend is Lake County’s best of the best in historical entertainment! Players from near and far will take you back 400 years to simpler times, when people knew how to celebrate. It’s the 2nd Annual Lake Renaissance Festival at the Tuscan Village on Main Street in Lower Lake, on May 29 & 30, 10a-6p. This festival is unique among festivals and faires of the Renaissance because it re-enacts Tuscany, Italy, of the 16th Century.
Actors choose a character and learn to dress, walk, and talk like the people of 400 years past. They will take workshops on May 15, 22, & 23.They may perform on the stage, or right on the streets, interacting with willing guests. This is known as Interactive or Environmental Theatre which is a part of an Historical Reenactment. And that is what the Lake Renaissance Festival really is. Theatre & History Training Workshops! Free to the public - All ages welcome! May 22nd & 23rd ~ Starting at 10am
There are two options. Of course we'd love to train you and hope you'll decide to be involved with the festival. Come to the workshops, enjoy yourself, then you’ll be invited to join the Italian Amadori Family, or the new English guild or the Ottoman pirates. Or just enjoy an interactive learning experience. In Interactive or Environmental Theatre, which is the basis of our reenactment, actors learn how to define a character and learn to dress, walk, and talk like the people of 400 years past. They may perform on the stage, or right on the streets, interacting with willing guests. There will be no pressure, no lines to memorize, just dress up and play with us! Due to variables we cannot print the exact order of each workshop until the day of. Runtimes: approx. 30 to 60 minutes each. There will be certain required workshops if you plan on being in the Festival. Please be present at 10am to start. For workshop descriptions (or any questions) contact the Ed. Dept, but in general they all revolve around our specifics: Tuscan Region of Italy circa 1545-1610. What you will learn in Interactive Play and Characterization can be adapted for any theme & any time.
And you are ALL invited, because…we are opening up our workshops to the public, free of charge! And if workshops don’t give you a big enough taste, you’re invited to be involved in the festival. As is the past, students of Lake County schools will be given community service hours for their involvement in the festival. As an alternative to stage performance, or should you have an act you feel you are not ready to adapt, please consider joining one of our Italian Families and becoming part of our environment. There will be no pressure, no lines to memorize, just dress up and play with us! The Lake And Mountain Young Artists Guild (aka LAMb) was established a few years ago for the purpose of providing our local youth with training in the visual and performing arts, and a place to perform, and to show their art. In this instance, our instructors are learned scholars who have shown remarkable focus in their field and/or triple threat performers with years of experience as re-enactors. Serious students of all ages are welcome. A calendar will be posted on www.lakerenfest.com when complete. To sign-up call AnnDrewArt at 995-5079 or 278-0312 or email educare@lakerenfest.com” |

From Ann White (one of the LRF organizers): “I can’t begin to tell you the feeling of unity or collective consciousness or whatever you want to call it that we have come to feel, being a part of this kind of experience. 20 years down the road you still feel this remarkable comradery with people you ‘knew at faire.’ (Meaning the original at Novato). There are websites devoted to Faire Alumni. There are websites for dozens of faires all over the world and websites for registering them and social networks devoted to keeping this huge ‘family’ together. There’s even a group that helps Rennies who are going through personal crisis. What solidarity! It never ceases to amaze me, how I keep running into people here in Lake County that ‘have done faire’. And I hope as we grow and keep doing this, that they’ll keep coming out of the woodwork…and join the family!” |
At this time we are still a grassroots event and are unable to offer monetary compensation, but as we grow and get more sponsors and contributors we will look with gratitude to those who were willing to be a part of these beginning years of Lake Renaissance Festival. (Last year saw more than 1000 guests, way exceeding our expectations for the first year.) We will be able to offer refreshments and have a costumed player pass the hat during performances. We are very motivated to do whatever we can to include one in this unique experience. This is more than a glorified craft faire (although there is certainly nothing wrong with those!), it is an historical reenactment whose organizers have gone to great lengths to present it in such a way that guests feel as if they’ve stepped through a doorway to another place and time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Auditions for Commedia del arte Troupe As you may know (or not) the Tuscan Village was the home of the inaugural Lake Renaissance Festival last May. Even though we started getting ready for it in Feb. we decided that we needed to start planning for the next one A LOT sooner. One of the things that we truly wished for but didn’t have the time to pull together was a theatre group called Commedia del arte. It started during the Renaissance, formed from a group of Italian actors (usually all from the same family) that comprised stock characters who would travel about presenting their comedy improv scenarios. Some of the scenarios can be quite racy, and was the birth parent of Vaudeville & Burlesque theatre and more. If you are interested, then stay in touch and we’ll keep you posted when it is time for auditions. |
