Art Moves Billboard Art Competition

The participants are requested to prepare an artwork which will be a creative response to this year’s competition theme: Together or apart? The competition is addressed to all the interested artists and students all over the world .
The best 10 artworks selected by an international jury will be printed and exhibited in the urban space of the city of Torun, Poland as part of 3rd International Festival of Art on Billboards Art Moves in September/October 2010.
The author of the winning entry will receive the main award in the amount of $2200.
The main idea behind the festival and the competition is to promote modern art as the form of dialogue with the public and to encourage young artists to create art engaged in the reality. The originators of the Festival believe that art can be very important to contemporary man, breaking people free from everyday routine and offering new clues to the reality. Art should also facilitate the identification of people with the space they live in, triggering a more reflective approach towards the outer space and, at the same time, be an alternative to the flashy, ever-present advertisements.
No entry fee.

OPEN CALL FOR VIDEO SUBMISSIONS
VIDEOHOLICA 2010 INTERNATIONAL VIDEO ART FESTIVAL
3RD EDITION/ KEEP THE ILLUSION ALIVE
AUGUST IN ART BIENNIAL
AUGUST 2010, VARNA, BULGARIA

The 3rd edition of the VIDEOHOLICA INTERNATIONAL VIDEO ART FESTIVAL 2010 will take place in the period 10 - 17 August 2010 in Varna within the framework of the International Biennial for Visual Arts AUGUST IN ART.

VIDEOHOLICA 2010 will present a series of video art projections and exhibitions and will make presentations of well-known international video art forums and honored video artists in parallel with discussions concerning video art topics.

The 3rd festival edition will pass under the KEEP THE ILLUSION ALIVE motto.
In the process of increasingly stiffening economic spheres, multimedia, hyper realities and cybernetic culture, “the network of simulacra” has become increasingly live phenomenon. High technologies, information, Internet, clicking, downloading, setting commands, editing memories, cutting out dreams! The art sets the issue: "Shall we use all this, or shall we transform ourselves into very it?" The "hyper reality", thus created, dictates personality’s behavior, perception and consciousness, causing loss of subjectivity. The motto of this year's festival appeals to preserving one’s identity/ authenticity in the process of mass modification and unification of the individual. The term "illusion" is the subject of many cultural, sociological, religious, philosophical and psychological studies from the time of postmodernism, and continues to be a live issue, both with positive and negative connotations. In this sense, the conservation/ preservation of the unreal is a negation of the material world and a protest against the omnipotence of information, socio-cultural and politico-economic speculations.

The decisions about the selection of the videos will be made by the 5-member jury. All the applicants, who observe the rules and the deadline, will have admission to the jury, which will take place in July 2010. The final results will be announced and sent to the applicants by e-mail by the end of July 2010. The jury will make representative selection of 20 movies. There is no submission fee.

VIDEOHOLICA 2010 open call will run until 30 of June 2010 and all applications are very welcome.

Publisher Mohawk Media has today announced that it is in search of artists for upcoming comic book and graphic novel projects.
Having had success with its Mr. T graphic novels, the publisher is readying to get new projects underway in 2010.
To help spearhead this search, Mr. T author, Christopher Bunting, has been appointed as Editor-In-Chief. Bunting says: "As a freelance writer, one in the early stages of his career, I know just how tough it is to break into comic books."
"I’ve often heard aspiring artists say there are no openings. I’m therefore proud to be part of this Mohawk Media initiative to give artists the opportunity to become published, and be involved in some of the coolest titles of 2010!"

The publisher recommends the following:

A brief email about yourself and any published experience, accompanied by a minimum of 5 sequential pages

  • Story pages only (no pinups, paintings or portraits)
  • Your strongest – and preferably, recent – work
  • A variety of genres if possible
  • Samples in jpeg or PDF format only. Links will not be opened
  • All submissions to chris@mohawkmedia.co.uk

Bunting continues: "Remember, comics are a storytelling medium. Those are the skills that you need to demonstrate. We’re excited to see what comes in. Good luck!"

D21 is a non-profit art space in the west of Leipzig, calling for 'zines.
In May 2010 the German non-profit art space D21 Kunstraum will host an exhibition of ArtZines – small artist publications that circulate in astounding varieties of forms and shapes, in print and online versions, at more or less regular intervals.

In order to present a cross-section of publications that meet the outlined criteria, we have started a far-reaching and extensively communicated open call for zines, of which a selection will be shown in the D21 Kunstraum galleries. Focusing on issues of display and seminal exhibition design, students of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, class of Systemdesign (Prof. Oliver Klimpel), will develop a design concept for the exhibition. Furthermore, we are working closely together with mzin, a Leipzig-based gallery and bookshop for graphics, art and pop.

Tuvalu Visualization Project
http://tv.mapping.jp/

Tuvalu Visualization Project is an art project visualizing information of Tuvalu on Google Earth. This project has been executed as a joint research of NPO Tuvalu Overview and Hidenori Watanave Laboratory @ Tokyo Metropolitan University from September 2008.

This project is composed of three elements.

- Build the Future with 10,000 Tuvaluans - The supporting system for the activity of Tuvalu Overview.
- Tuvalu Mapping - 3300 GPS photographs of Tuvalu on Google Earth.
- Tuvalu on Photosynth - Examples of artwork made by using GPS photographs.

The purpose of project is to disclose actual information about People and Scenery in Tuvalu to the world.

It is said that Tuvalu is exposed to danger of going under water by sea level rising because of global warming. However, we suppose that it is important to understand not only the problem of global warming, but also the real situation of Tuvalu. The Internet is an effective tool for collecting information, but it was difficult to obtain information of the real situation of Tuvalu from the Internet.

Therefore, we produced this project to present the real situation of Tuvalu, to improve the interest in Tuvalu, and to receive feedback from all over the world.
